For better or worse, TikTok has an influence on lifestyle trends – and interiors are no exception.
Flicking through the hashtags and the For You Page can show you what is in, and what is so out.
In 2023, minimalism has upgraded to artisan, while TikTokers celebrate clutter and showcase their maximalist pads.
All tastes are personal, but there are some emerging ideas: colour clashing and DIY art projects? Yes! Putting boroque-style plaster on white walls? Yes! Swapping greys for warm 90s neutrals? Yes! Using sustainable materials, upcycling, filling the space with greenery? Triple yes!
As trends blow up on the social media app and inspire our homemaking, AI has just designed the ultimate home – according to what you’ve all been liking.
The algorithm pulls together content from the most popular hashtags to settle on a TikTokers dream home.
The results are cottage-core meets artisan with some brutalism thrown in for good measure.
Confused? See it for yourself: AI’s idea of the ultimate home, according to TikTok trends:
Using AI to create the TikTok trend home was the brainchild of Deirdre Mc Gettrick, home expert and co-founder and CEO of ufurnish.com.
She analysed TikTok to reveal the top 10 most popular 2023 interior trends.
Coming in first is artisanal wares, which feels rustic and calming. There’s a lot of wood, clay, wicker and greenery.
Next is warm ‘90s neutrals, which again lean on warm, earthy tones and traditional aesthetics.
Sustainable and natural materials feature a lot, and wall lights take centre stage, while green is the colour of choice.
‘TikTok’s user base is largely made up of Gen Z and is driving interior décor trends towards sustainability and eco-friendliness,’ Deirdre says, adding that power-saving lights are becoming more popular among the eco-conscious.
The home is filled with more stuff than the minimalist trend of yesteryear would allow. Although there are some brutalist influences, earthy colours and green and brown keep it feeling warm and cosy.

To design your home in an eco-friendly way without AI, Deirdre recommends choosing natural materials and adds that a rug is a great place to start.
She says: ‘[Rugs] make a great addition to your space, as they can help anchor your furniture and create a cosy and intimate space.
‘When choosing your rug, opt for materials like jute or hemp to add texture and interest to your living space.
‘These sustainable materials are also highly durable, and even in the worst-case scenario of rug damage over time, they can be repurposed into various items such as pillows, smaller rugs, or even a table runner.’
