A MUM has revealed the de-icing hack that she says she “can’t live without” this winter.
Chloe Mart posted the handy trick on her TikTok account, which is perfect for “mornings on the go”.
Chloe claims to have been saved from “standing around in the cold” by the “super quick and easy” method.
She explained: “Little life hack that I learnt a few years ago that I can’t live without.
“Now it’s getting to the frozen mornings and everyone’s rushing… [but] this is super quick and easy.
“All you need to do is put lukewarm water from the tap straight into a plastic bag…hover it over your windscreen, it melts it all.
“There’s no messing, it literally takes five seconds…you don’t need to stand there scrubbing the ice off, freezing your hands off.”
In the clip, Chloe demonstrated how effective the trick is, using the water to clear her windscreen of frost in seconds.
However, she rightly emphasised that you should never use hot or boiling water for this purpose as it can damage your windscreen.
Hot water on cold glass can cause something called thermal shock, where the heat expands parts of the pane unevenly, causing it to crack or even shatter.
Considering that a replacement windscreen can cost upwards of £200, it’s vital not to make that common error.
RAC spokesperson Rod Dennis said: “Any driver using hot or warm water in this way seriously risks cracking their windscreen.
“It’s all down to how hot the water is, and how cold the windscreen is – something that’s not at all easy to judge.
“This is one hack that could seriously backfire.”
It comes after a mum was left devastated after a terrifying de-icing mistake left her with no car at all.
Meanwhile, a car dealership run by a major franchise has closed its doors after just 17 months – and more may follow.
